Christmas Special 2004

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have just one question for you: What is the definition of Power? The answer? Knowledge in ACTION!

If you've been through Leadership Awakening but haven't attended Leadership Adventure, you've only completed half the process. Leadership Adventure literally begins where Awakening leaves off. When you attend Leadership Adventure, you skyrocket your leadership - and life - skills at least 4-5 times beyond Awakening.

"Adventure certainly took things to a whole new level for me... I really "got" Awakening from taking Adventure... I like to tell people it was Anthony Robbins meets Survivor." - Eric Bradley, Adventure Team 136

Now you can attend Adventure at a substantial discount, but only if you sign up before December 25...

Are You Fully Using The Power of Vision?

By Dr. Bruce Eichelberger

In the 1960's Australian Psychologist Alan Richardson performed a now famous experiment*. He wanted to discover how much the act of visualizing impacted a person's physical abilities.

To perform this experiment, he assembled three groups of students and tested all of them for their ability to make baskets from a basketball free-throw line. None of these students had previous experience with visualization.

One group then practiced free-throws every day for 20 days. The other two groups didn't practice during this time The second group neither practiced nor visualized. However the third group did spend 20 minutes a day visualizing shooting free-throws. If they 'missed' in the process, they would 'retake' the shot.

At the end of the 20 days, everyone was tested again. The first group, who had actually practice daily, improved 24%. The second group, who neither practiced nor visualized had no improvement. But the third group, who had only visualized daily, improved 23%! That was almost as good as the group who actually practiced!

This somewhat surprising outcome reflects the fact that simply having a good clear image in your mind of what you want, programs your body over time to successfully achieve your goals. This has been demonstrated repeatedly in subsequent studies.

Do you know how to use this ability to full advantage? It's actually quite simple:

The easiest way to make sure you get the full effect of visualizing is to 'step into' the end result you want in reaching your goals - in other words, imagine what it will look, feel, sound, smell and even taste like when you reach your goal. In other words,  imagine already being there.

As simple as this sounds, it has very powerful results. The trick with visualizing, as with any skill, is to repeat the process until it becomes a natural part of your experience. Don't take my word for it - just do it and see for yourself!

If you want even more highly effective ideas to help you visualize your future, I recommend that you read Scott V. Black's powerful book, Becoming Your Dreams: Want It. Create It. Live It!

Action Steps for Today

Your ability to clearly envision what you want is crucial for achieving your dreams. Take the time while you do your 5 & 5 journaling to get a full sensory experience of what you are writing and what you want to accomplish. By 'stepping into' your goals this way, you will greatly accelerate your progress of achieving them!

Michael Paulus' Adventure Journal

Part 9 - The Final Day...

It is now Sunday morning. My TEAM 153- LIVE AND LEAD PASSIONATELY! is feeling really great after an amazing process Saturday night. Our FRIEND FOR LIFE and POWER PARTNER, JAY THOMPSON stopped by that evening to share our experience with us. It was fantastic to have such powerful people around to make that experience one to remember. What I also remember Jay saying was something along the lines of, "However powerful you are feeling right now, just wait until tomorrow." Boy was he right.

We arrived at the ranch and began class with some quality sharing with Scott V. Black at the front of the class. It was nice to be sitting next to Georgine while sharing what the prior evening's process meant to me. Then we began the next process.

At first blush, I had figured out what I was going to do to complete the process. Then instead of going with the first knee-jerk reaction, I really began to dig deeper. So deep that things I never knew existed were revealed. Would I follow the criteria for the process or would I take the easy way out? Where else in my life had I taken the easy way out just to get by?

Was I ready to look my TEAMMATES in the eye and make decisions that up until now, had been more of the "let's get through this and move on", type?

Ladies and gentlemen, as I have posted previously I held my mother in my arms and spoke to her as she left this world. I spoke to her of crossing the bridge from this world to the next. The visualization of seeing the angel Michael on the other side reaching out for her. Telling her of the warm comforting light, the sight of family who have gone before her, and the weight of pain lifted from her body as she makes her way across. I told her to not look back as her time on this world was through. I would make sure my brother and sister were taken care of and we would all be okay. I was standing on this side watching her leave this world and at the time, I felt that there was nothing more difficult than watching, hearing, feeling the woman I cared most for in this world leaving me.

I am here to confess that what happened in this process was much more difficult that what I did in that hospice room. I faced things about myself that at one moment had me on the verge of running away. Then at the next I would want to crawl up in a fetal position and withdraw from the world. It was too painful a decision. But the decision was already made. I KNEW what the proper action was for me to take. I had gone through my Awakening and my Adventure class, up to this point, shared with my TEAM and my fellow graduates about what it means to LIVE IT! I knew what I should do. The question was would I do it?

Was I ready to LIVE my talk? Was I ready to look Georgine in the eyes and show her who this powerful husband, friend, lover, and protector was? Even at the cost of shedding another veil from my soul?

YES! Yes, but not without emotion. Emotion so strong that I said things to Scott V. Black that were later apologized for. I can honestly say that had Mr. Black been closer physically to me I would have lashed out at him. I am thankful he was not as that would surely have made the process take an ugly turn. But decide I did. Even though it tore my heart apart.

But I knew more about who Michael Paulus was once I opened up my heart. I made a choice that I know was the correct one. A choice that on many occasions during the rest of the process burned me like hot coals in the very depths of my soul.

This process was the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. And I have been in situations where lives hung in the balance. But I thank Scott V. Black and the staff for putting this process in place. I grew up during this process. I am 46 years old and on that day, I became a man.

This process concluded with another physically challenging process where I was once again responsible for the health and well-being of my TEAMMATES. No time for pity-parties. No time for wondering did I make the right decision, why did I choose to make that decision? There was time for that later.

I will post again tomorrow regarding the next process from Sunday. It was an opportunity to once again "WALK MY TALK!"

With PASSION- HBS!

Michael

Word Play

"Vision" refers to an unusual ability to discern or perceive the big picture. Someone with vision has intelligent foresight. Here is an example of how you might use the word in a sentence: "The leader of our group had the vision and foresight to anticipate some of the issues we would face and overcome them before they even happened."

Living It! - Graduates Speak Out

In this issue, Regina Schowengerdt gives us a great observation about the nature of 'crabs'...

"I am amazed at the daily turmoil that comes into our (my) life and how it is a constant battle and then I realize it is a battle!! A battle to succeed. Some people do not want us to succeed personally, emotionally, or professionally so their only hope is to disguise themselves and then attack. Well, I personally choose to fight and admit there is more I should be doing and until this very moment in freezing time I am going to fight with all I have... It is definitely time for change!!!!"
