Class Deadlines/Closed Classes... |
Our Mexico classes are filling rapidly - the
April Awakening Reynosa class is closed, leaving the May 19-21 class in
Reynosa with only a few seats left. If you are planning to
attend or send someone to Reynosa, please act soon or risk being
left out.
Also, we want to remind all our Awakening Graduates that the final
two Leadership Adventure classes in Fernley, Nevada are coming up
fast. There will be no more Adventure classes scheduled on the
West Coast after these are filled—and they
are filling quickly.
Still not decided about attending Adventure?
Read what recent Adventure Graduate, Richard Lasek had to say
about his experience:
"Thanks so much for a OUTSTANDING
weekend. It was life changing. Leadership Awakening
was fantastic but it hit me much differently than Leadership
Adventure.
"During Awakening, I was much more vocal and
outgoing, but in this program, I internalized much more. I
was building up an internal combustion of sorts. To best
explain it... [in Awakening] I was in a room full of light
that exploded everywhere, and [in Adventure] I was able to
harnesses it into on single ray of light... bright and laser
focused..."
If you've been wanting to
attend Adventure on the West Coast, please act now to secure
your spot in either the May 13-15 or June 3-5 Adventure class in
Fernley. The Time is NOW!

Today's Message |
Gratitude
We want to express our deep and sincere
gratitude to those of you who answered the call to help Fr. Israel Gonsalves
in Tanzania. As you may remember, Fr. Gonsalves runs an
orphanage for children of the region. In addition to
housing, they also receive an education to help them make a
better life for themselves.
Because school supplies are difficult or
impossible to get, we sent out a message to graduates to
lend a helping hand to these children in need. For
them, simple
cartridges for an inkjet printer cost over $60 a piece!
Numerous graduates heard the call and
responded. Supplies were gathered and shipped to the
orphanage, and have arrived safely. We are truly grateful
for the expression of kindness and 'giving back' from each
of you who contributed.
Here is what Fr. Gonsalves had to say:
"Here is Israel, Tanzania, with a smile and
gratitude....
"I am in receipt of the 3 packages intact. I
am happy and grateful to Scott my brother, who put me in
contact with you. I feel that I am extending my family...
God bless you! May God continue to bless you, that you may
continue to empower people and make their lives meaningful."

Action Steps for Today -
Giving Thanks |
|
Gratitude for what we have and what we receive
every day is so easy to overlook, yet so important if we are
to keep a healthy perspective on our lives. This is why the
"5 + 5" exercises include remembering 5 things that you are
grateful for each day.
After reading Fr. Gonsalves' story above, I think you'll
agree that each of us have a tremendous amount to be
grateful for. In an upcoming issue we will be talking about
additional reasons it is so important to do your daily 5 + 5, but
for now we want to simply encourage you to do them. Like
the commercial says, "Just do it!"

A Chance for You
to Make a
Difference - Will you help Jim's family? |
|
Empower
U Graduate Scott Demers' worked side by side with
firefighter James Young. Mr. Young experienced a tragic
accident last Fall that has left him in a coma, unable
to care for his wife, 5 children and his dairy farm.
Scott has sent us an urgent request to help Jim's family
during this time. Empower U has already donated $1,000
to help out. We are asking for all of our graduates to
contribute to the family. We will also be donating an
additional 10% on top of whatever our graduates send in. For
example, if graduates send $5,000, Empower U will
add an additional $500 to our original donation.
Scott
tells us about Jim's situation:
"The
world spins in many ways. My good friend Jim Young, a
local farmer and fellow firefighter/EMT helped at my
house after I'd had a bad fall last year, comforting
my wife and children, saying, "Don’t worry he’s going to
be ok." I thanked Jim later in the week, and he told me,
"Nothing that you wouldn’t have done for me, its all
about the brotherhood.
"Jim is a quiet guy, working the land daily. Dairy
farming is in his blood, he knows the barn, the
tractors, and all of the land. You see, Jim is living a
promise that he made to his dying mother, she asked that
Jim never sell the farm, keep the family tradition
alive. Jim has been through droughts, floods, poverty,
and more, but he keeps pushing, pushing like he wants
it.
"Today I visited my quiet friend at the hospital; wires,
tubes, and monitors attached to his body. Jim is in a
coma. Almost two weeks later to the day, he also fell.
He fell from his barn floor onto a cement landing
causing head trauma and a collapsed lung. They did
emergency surgery to relieve the bleeding in his head
and to repair his lung. God didn't let him land as well
as me. WHY!!!!!! HE HAS FIVE CHILDREN TO
FEED!!!!!!!!!!!!
"The fire department put out the word, and twenty eager
men determined to learn what Jim has done for over 40
years went to help milk those cows and clean up after
them. We will be working in shifts, and doing what ever
it takes to get Jim better. I pray that God doesn’t need
a good man because Jim is truly a great person.
"Please pray for Jim Young and his wife and five
children. Hold each others hand while saying grace and
look everyone in the eye. We never know what God has
planned for us.
"Since he has been in a coma, his daughter has given
birth to his grandson, who
he has never spoken to or seen. I was told that every
time that his grandson is laid on his chest, Jimmy
begins to cry, not a weeping cry but tears run out of
the sides of his eyes. He is still inside. For whatever
reason God has chosen to keep him in this state. Spring
will be very tough for the family, the fields will have
to plowed and corn will have to be planted, along with
the everyday routine of milking the 120 cows and other
animals that need to be attended to. The fire department
has been to the farm on several accounts helping with
what ever can be accomplished in the time allowed. We
are all still positive for a great outcome."
We
are asking graduates to donate as much as possible to
help this family out in their time of need. Please make
your check out to "James Young" and write "Empower U" on
the check. Please send all you can to:
FF
Demers c/o
Watertown Fire Department
935 Main Street
Watertown, CT 06795
Scott will see that the checks get into the fund that
has been set up to help support the family. There is
still hope and signs that this man will recover and resume his life.
Please give generously to help his family in the
meanwhile. |

Leading the Adventure Home - by Hunter

LEADING THE ADVENTURE HOME
Time is Now - 5:00 pm: Pete, Joe, and I are sitting at a
restaurant just east of Muenster after living Leadership
Adventure. We order variations on the bar-b-q combo plate.
Joe orders a soft drink, Pete sticks with water, and I go
for iced tea. Each of these choices appeared to be simply
made as we each have blazed this food trail many times with
the thought, “I KNOW WHAT I WANT.” The food tasted great,
including the bratwurst I only eat when away from the house;
however, the conversation and reflection offered more energy
than simply chewing. I know what type of leader I am just as
I always knew what type of food I like. I know how I fail
now and was shown many times throughout Adventure how my
hesitation affects the team’s outcome – a painful, but
powerful growing experience for me. For Pete, his actions
gave others permission to act and, whether or not his
actions were in line with the team’s needs, the team was
forced to choose. Pete did not leave any butt prints in the
sand that I saw. Joe, a previous graduate of Adventure,
offered a new focus point by his presence. He created an
environment for me to succeed and, with each new step I
take, my frame changes for who he is as I change. He
certainly demonstrated that the answers to the test were
available, but it took me listening again for the first time
to hear and see.
Time is Now - 7:12 pm: Pete and I have settled into the
drive after a powerful goodbye with Joe. North of Dallas,
our minds are on fire for our goals. We both want our
company to succeed. We both now knew before the weekend how
to create and live the vision steps. Now, however, we have a
new way to achieve an amazing level of commitment. I have
felt, from the core of my soul, to the strength of my
beating heart, to the natural armor my body owns, that I
will be able to achieve anything when I commit to living.
Watch out world, here I am with a powerful lexicon of ORANGE
ENERGY!!!
Time is Now - 10:05 pm: Pete and I are much closer to home
with many tears, smiles, and a lot less weight with
everything we have left behind from the bonfire, the
mountain, and every inch of the road. The two of us speak
powerfully about our ambitions. We enjoy (again for the
first time) “THINK ABOUT THAT.” I shared with Pete that one
hug I offered, when no one else noticed a team member’s
success, ended with a vote for life. This one act brought a
gift worth a thousand steps as I rebuilt my confidence by
adding a swagger to my walk and choosing to run as the
gazelle and the lion. As I add strength to the remainder of
this run home, I realize the Cheetos I am eating never
tasted as great as they do now.
Time is Now - 11:38 pm: I have left Pete at his house, a
much stronger brother in my life, and am now facing my wife
with a calm, confident, exhausted smile. The hug is
wonderful. The adventure home, while unlocking many secrets
and turning on many switches for new paths, began with
purpose. I am now here, at my purpose, to give my family all
of the width and intensity I am willing to live. I have
discovered that there is always more. With my candle relit,
my mission statement lives, which was built with my family
in mind, with a new strength of conviction. I am committed
to them with Heart, Body, and Soul . . . Yes! Yes! Yes!
