Making a
Difference - Jennifer Leak, Team 415 |
|
I chose to
involve others when I went to donate blood at United
Blood Services here in Reno. Because of the weather and
the time of year, the supply was even lower than it
normally is. I sent out an email to my co-workers, my
teammates and my friends, asking them to take the time
to donate on specific day and time. In the past, I have
not told anyone that I was going. In the end, I got 6
people to donate blood with me. It helped UBS and
taught others that giving blood is not hard or painful.
Other
things that I have been up to since graduation have
included reaching out to people who just need someone to
talk to. One person at work was having a particularly
bad week. After attending graduation and talking with
Mrs. Black about it, I decided to take action. Instead
of thinking that this particular person was being a
bitch, I reached out, sent her a card and talked with
her and told her what no one else in the office would
(gently, of course) and let her know how it affected all
of us. She took the help and has been back on track.
I was
also reading the other boards and saw a member from 413
who needed help. This woman is a complete stranger to
me. I posted on the board and then she emailed me. We
emailed back and forth and I sent her a card as well. I
believe I helped her pick herself up, dust herself off
and hit the walls again. I now have a new friend in
Dallas because I chose to relight her candle.
It was
great. Reaching out and just doing anything to make
peoples days just a little brighter and show them that
there is someone who does care. Introducing people to
giving blood was great. I don't know how I did not
think of it before. We have committed to going every
eight weeks this year - together. Even when I am
feeling blue, I do something nice for someone because it
makes me feel better.
I was
able to raise the pints of blood in the blood bank by
six pints, instead of just one. This will help our area
hospitals to help people who cannot give blood -those
that are sick and need transfusions, those that are in
accidents, those that are in need. It is a good feeling
knowing that I inspire others to do.
I
realized that I actually do benefit from giving of
myself. I also realized that if I reach out to someone
- in Reno, in Sacramento, in Dallas - that I impact
their lives. I also realized that if I am feeling down
or blue - reaching out makes me feel good. It is
rewarding and something I plan on continuing. I
realized that it is exhausting. I realized that I will
have good days and bad days - but that is life. No flat
line here. Peaks and valleys - which I will embrace.
Thank
you, Empower U. |

"Veracity" means that which is true. You can see it in use in
today's article by Jim Meurer below. The sentence is, "There are
countless examples throughout history of "Days" that bear witness to
the veracity of this saying." |
|
PST!... PST... Have you heard this rumor? |
I just heard that Empower U is working to increase
enrollment in their Texas classes. The rumor is that a
special deal to increase Texas classes will be announced in
the next few days.
From everything I've heard, it's going to be a whopper of a
bargain! I hope I'm not too late to get in on it...
Keep your eyes open for the email announcement, coming soon!

A Day, A Difference by Jim Meurer |
Have you ever heard the saying "What a difference a day
makes"? There are countless examples throughout history of
"Days" that bear witness to the veracity of this saying.
Consider:
- January 27, 1931 - Mohandas K. Gandhi is released
from prison for violating the British "Salt Tax", and
subsequently opens negotiations with the British that
will eventually lead to independence for India.
- January 30, 1933 - Adolph Hitler is sworn in as
Chancellor of Germany.
- April 30, 1945 – Hitler takes his own life 55 feet
below ground in his Berlin bunker.
- On a chill November day, 1963 in Dallas, Texas our
President lost his life.
- December 3, 1967 the 1st transplanted heart beat in
a human chest.
- December 2, 1982 the 1st artificial heart beat in a
human chest.
- February 11, 1990, freed after 27 years imprisoned,
a throng of 50,000 greets Nelson Mandela. Apartheid in
South Africa is ended.
- October 3, 1995 O.J. Simpson is acquitted of murder.
- September 11, 2001... Our world is forever changed.
Each day is special and unique unto itself. Today is the
only today we will have… just as was true with yesterday and
as will be the same truth when tomorrow dawns. And equally
as true, all of the significant events listed above, while
noteworthy and historically memorable, were all preceded by
many unique and individual days that shaped those outcomes.
It is easy to recognize how significant each day is if we
look openly and objectively. Small actions can become a part
of larger events. Truly, it is the summation of many small
actions that have shaped all mighty events. Just as Hitler
did not come to power in a single day, likewise apartheid
was not ended in a 24-hour period.
Each of us is afforded that very special gift, that
unique and individual "Day," every morning that we wake up
and draw a breath. But as is sometimes the case, we can
arrive at the end of the day feeling that perhaps it was not
so memorable, not so noteworthy. Why is that? What
distinguishes a spectacular day from the mundane?
It is part of the human condition to revert back to
patterns. And maybe, just maybe, some of those old patterns
need an adjustment... a means to shake off the old status
quo. Something to reinvigorate the Heart, Body and Soul.
Something that will alter the outcome and make the end of
each day a thing to celebrate as a Great Day.
So... if you find that Life seems to be not all that it
can be, if you feel that you dash is going too slow or that
your vision is clouded, go to the mirror and have a nice
open chat with that person. Ask that person if there aren’t
perhaps a few tools that can be put to use to shake up that
old status quo. Ask them if they are ready to grab onto the
very next Day and ride it for all its worth. Ask them if
they are ready to Live Life Like It Matters...
For truly, it does! |
