Texas Special - Just in Time
for Christmas!
Read this now to
find out how you can save $1400!
As you probably know, Empower U has
recently opened offices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Because of this, we want to increase class size and awareness of
our Texas classes for both of the
Leadership Experience classes we offer there— Leadership
Adventure and Leadership Awakening.
This
means that until December 15,
2005, you can buy one class at full price and get a second class
for just $300. Tuition for the second
class is free – you are paying only for food and lodging!
There are 2 stipulations on this
special offer:
-
The second class must be taken
in 2006—the offer will expire January 1, 2007.
-
The second class must be used in
Texas. You can use it either for Adventure or for any Texas
Awakening class in 2006.
The full price class can be
attended anywhere we offer classes. Only the second class needs
to be attended in Texas.
Your total cost for 2 classes is
just $1995. This is a savings of almost $1400!
Because this is a limited time offer,
you must act now to make
sure you beat the deadline. After December 15, you will not be
able to get this great deal.
Call us at our Dallas office now at
(817) 560-3700 to get this excellent deal on both of our Leadership Experience
classes!

Today's Message |
Refocusing... On Focusing
By Dr. Bruce Eichelberger
I don't know about you, but for me the holidays are often
accompanied by a somewhat bewildering array of activities,
deadlines and distractions.
Not that it's a bad thing, it's just such a contrast to
what happens in nature, where winter time is when every
other living thing s l o w s d o w n and
recovers from the activities of the rest of the year. Bears
hibernate, trees pull their life energy deep into their
roots and the pace of the natural world reverts into a
slower, more
inward path.
What brought this to mind was noticing the pile of
yet-to-be-completed projects on my desk this morning. I
found myself asking, "What are the most important things
here for me to focus on?" Honestly, I felt overwhelmed and
unfocused. Each project seemed just as important and
urgent as the next. How could I possibly choose from
among them?
The answer took a while in coming, but when it did, it came
in the form of another, more pertinent question, "What among
these projects are most in harmony with my purpose and
mission statement?"
Ahhhh... now I was getting somewhere! Immediately it became
clear how to prioritize all of the possible things that were
tugging at my brain for attention! By focusing on what
matters most, it became easy to see which projects were most
likely to move me in the right direction.
The beauty of asking this question was that it did exactly
what was needed at this time of year. It helped me turn my attention from
the outward profusion of choices, and back to the
inner-directed priorities reflected in my deepest purpose.
It put, as Dr. Covey says, "First things first."
Whatever your situation and circumstances this holiday
season, I hope you will take just a bit of time to turn your
attention inward, to remind yourself of what is truly
important to you. I think that if you do, you'll not only
feel better, but also deal more effectively with the hustle
and bustle of the season.
Happy Holidays! |

Action Steps for Today |
|
As our lead article today points out, this is the most natural
time to gather our energies inward and regroup for the
coming year.
Today's action step is to pause for just 5 minutes and
breathe. While you do, think about those really important
inner directives that come from your purpose and are
reflected in your mission statement.
For a bonus action step, take out your mission statement
and see if you can refine and improve it. Keep in mind what
you have accomplished this year and what you hope to
accomplish next year. |

Making a
Difference - Carla Dhillon, Team 441 |
|
I spent Saturday morning serving food to the homeless at
Loaves & Fishes. Myself and one other person served
about 300 people at "breakfast" of the food from the
night before while a church group was prepping for
lunch. I hadn't been to Loaves and Fishes since high
school and I was shocked at how many people were
on the streets in Sacramento and in need of food.
I used to volunteer at a homeless shelter and have
done a lot of other volunteer service (Habitat for
Humanity, 2 years with a non-profit in Guatemala), but I
realized that since moving back to Sacramento, up until
now I had not spent time with the poor. I realized again
how much I need to.
They appreciated the food, conversation, and looks in
the eye that I was giving. And I felt anger at how they
live and have to struggle & also gratefulness for all I
have. I only caught a few names, but think I have seen 2
of them on the streets since.
I will go back again because it's important for them
to know that people care and important for me to not
insulate myself from the harsh realities of the world. I
volunteer with Habitat, but that doesn't put me in
direct contact with the poorest of the poor (Habitat
usually selects the working class poor families, the the
people on the streets).
I was energized by my participation and very glad I
went. I felt empathy for their situation and now feel
more aware of people around me. |

Word Play |
|
Today's word is profusion. Profusion means, 'an overpowering
quantity or amount.'
You can see it used in today's lead article in the sentence, "It
helped me turn my attention from the outward profusion of choices,
and back to the inner-directed priorities reflected in my deepest
purpose." |

MOMENTUM by Hunter Jesse |
|
mo·men·tum n. pl. mo·men·ta (-t )
or mo·men·tums
- Symbol
p Physics. A
measure of the motion of a body equal to the product
of its mass and velocity. Also called linear
momentum.
- a. Impetus of a physical object in
motion. b. Impetus of a nonphysical process, such
as an idea or a course of events.
- Philosophy.
An essential or
constituent element; a moment.
Definition 1
I continue to ask myself... how am I keeping this
going a year and a month after “Awakening” graduation? What
a great experience... Heart, Body, and Soul moving in one
direction. “Awakening” creates momentum like a boulder
rolling down a hill. It picks up speed as it tumbles down
the slope. It hits bumps. The boulder launches into the air
eliminating the friction, which makes the journey
“effortless” with a breeze in the hair. It takes a hard blow
with the landing, but shifts the speed into overdrive
blazing its own path.
I felt this way... I blazed a trail. Went airborne a
few times... felt completely alive in the soar as well as
the bump and grind. I was living life fully. Sparked by my
challenges, encouraging my friends to see me again for the
first time, and hearing those closest team members cheer
loudly when I succeeded were all hands on my boulder adding
momentum as I came down the mountain.
Hmmm... so what keeps it going considering our
circumstances are different?
Definition 2
I watched some people walk out of class and appear to put
it right back on the dusty shelf. I watched others keep
themselves committed to only slide back into the box after a
couple of months and, in what seemed a futile battle, the
crabs won. I have also seen others fall down and pick
themselves up to hit again, with great success while
wielding mighty crab-busting hammers. Outside of
“Awakening”, however, the path winds a little more crooked
than the boulder’s linear path down the mountain.
Alas... all momentum must come to rest.
Or does it...? The physical object in motion can stay
in motion. The nonphysical process allows for a powerful
course of events to occur... sounds like a BHAG (Big
Hairy Audacious Goal), doesn’t it?!
Definition 3
Thus, the TIME IS ALWAYS NOW!!! This is where the tools
kick the boulder into overdrive and allow a boulder to roll
uphill with equal or greater momentum. Continue to project
from time to time which allows the body to gain energy while
shedding baggage. A morning projection is a great way to
make it a great day to be alive. Journaling and doing the “5
and 5’s” allow the patterns to be seen that made previous
climbs successful. With this roadmap, the successful
patterns help blaze the upward path.
Best of all... the 4 C’s of leadership help win the
day. This is the real battle... the one that wages within
the voices of the mind. Thus, by putting the 4 C’s into
action with oneself first, the path upward feels like the
path downward.
First, are you really Committed to the climb? Answer yes... once... twice... three time! Second, consider
the Communication you have with yourself, as Scott V. Black
writes. Win the battle of a positive self-image and the
Heart, Body, and Soul will move boulders up mountains.
Third, with this Clear Vision of the end in mind, the
boulder will be at the pinnacle of your achievement ready
for the next blazing path. Thanks to Mission and Vision
statements, the tools will allow for measurable and
rewarding progress upward. Fourth and final, a Consensus
must exist between the Heart, Body, and Soul. Get these
three components in line for an effortless push. This is the
team that will win the day. Between staffing and the
community board, these two avenues provide excellent ways to
gain the dynamite candle necessary to keep this team fed and
ready for each new bar.
Thus, all along I knew what I was doing to keep my
momentum. When I am ready to see them again for the first
time, I open the folders from Awakening and Adventure. I
open the book, “Becoming Your Dreams.” Best of all, however,
I surround myself with a team fueling my orange energy as I
push my Big Hairy Audacious boulder to the top of mountain.
