The Difference Maker
By Scott V. Black
In our leadership Awakening and Leadership Adventure classes we focus on the
qualities of The “Best Possible You.” Unless we consider what we would look,
sound, act, and think like living to our full potential then we have no
possibility of ever achieving that state. If you don’t know where you are going,
then any road will take you there! So in order to create the patterns,
behaviors, mindset… qualities of “You” living to “Your” potential, then we need
to become consciously aware of what those qualities are.
In our Leadership Awakening experience we tell the story of writer George
Bernard Shaw. Mr. Shaw was once asked by a reporter, “If you could go back in time
and relive your life as anybody you wanted, who would you be?.” He thought about
it for a moment and he looked the reporter in the eye and he said, “If I could
be anybody I wanted to be… I would be the George Bernhard Shaw, that I could have
been.”
What he was talking about was living his life without his fears, doubts,
limiting belief systems, missed opportunities… and living to the potential he
has. If we are going to get anywhere close to becoming that person then we need
to know what qualities does “that me” have?
Who Is The Best Possible You?
The best way to figure out what those qualities of “The best possible me,” is
to...

Making A Difference - Patti Engelman, Team

Up until going to Leadership Awakening I had very high walls
up around me that kept me from really "seeing people" or
being aware of their needs. Since I have been home my eyes
are wide open and I see people with needs everywhere I go.
In the past six weeks I have been performing many random
acts of kindness, some for people I have relationships with,
others for I people I just meet in passing on the street.
Some examples have been:
- stopping to help an elderly person cross an icy
parking lot
- helping an elderly gentleman get out of a cab at the
grocery store
- making phone calls or sending letter of
encouragement
- asking to watch another busy moms children several
times so that she can have some down time
- phoning and asking to run errands for some who were
snowed in
- sending Jon to snow blow a friends driveway after
our blizzard ( her husband is away serving in the
military overseas)
In all these instances I had to stop thinking about
myself and my agenda to take time to serve someone else.
This has made me feel excited. The look I see on peoples
faces when you stop and notice them is amazing, their eyes
light up and they give you a big smile. You can tell by one
small act that you have made their day.
For some it brought them to tears that someone was
thinking of them when they really needed encouragement.
"Hugs from God", my one friend calls them.
The benefit I have received is the joy I feel in serving
and ministering to others. I look for ways to serve people
daily. I also know that I am setting a great example for my
children to grow up serving others because I am living it at
home. I am impacting peoples lives on a daily basis.
Before Awakening I thought I was too busy whenever out
with the kids to stop and talk to someone, now I know that
is a lie. It is a wonderful feeling knowing you are
ministering to people everyday and that it doesn't have to
be some big planned out event. Just meeting peoples simple
needs wherever God shows you. |
