I Can't Hear What You're Saying
By Scott V. Black
For those that know me, you know my roll as a father is very important to me. As
I write this article Father's Day is around the corner, as you read this article
it is in the rear view mirror. With my Reticular Activating System focused on
Father's Day I am reminded of the following story:
A hard working man came home from work late again, tired and
irritated to find his 6-year old son waiting for him at the door.
“Daddy, May I ask you a question?’
“Yeah, sure, what is it?” replied the man.
“Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?”
“That’s none of your business! What makes you ask such a thing?” the
man said angrily.
“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?,"
pleaded the little boy.
“If you need to know, I make $20 an hour.”
“Oh,” the little boy replied, head bowed. Looking up, he said,
“Daddy, may I borrow $10 please?” ...

boy wanted to borrow $10 -

How Are You Making A Difference? |
Two Ways You Can Make A Difference
We're looking for Graduates who are ready to make a
difference in the lives of others. You can help two ways:
- Sign up to staff an upcoming Leadership Awakening or
Leadership Adventure class. It costs you nothing but your
time and makes a huge difference - not only for the class
you staff, but also for you!
- Sponsor someone you care about. It's easy to do and you
can make payments. It's a great way to make a difference in
the life of someone you love.
Call the office at (775) 575-2298 or
email us to get started.
Also note that we've added another Iowa Awakening class August 9-11.
Check the schedule. The Leadership Adventure schedule now extends through
the end of the year.

Forum Buzz... by Mindy Colvin
|
|
Things are really happening at The Forum! If you
haven’t visited lately, you’ve missed a lot!! We’ve been
talking about meadows, goals, summer plans, hitting
walls, defining success, reacting vs. responding, and
even must-see TV and movies for the summer! We’ve been
enjoying the interaction, and the only thing missing
now… is YOU!!
How many of you fall into the trap of thinking “I
don’t really have anything profound or earth-shattering
to say...” or “I’m really struggling – I must not be
‘living it’ any more…” and then choose to NOT post
something? We know some of you are looking – we can see
how many people are viewing each thread! That tells us
that we’re catching people’s attention, just not their
participation! We want to change that!!
The Empower U Forum is a community, a place where you
can honestly share your struggles, celebrate your
victories with others, and dig deeper into questions you
may have been asking yourself. If you’re looking for
fellowship and fun (or just fun fellowship!) with people
who share your desire to push yourself to be the best…
then it’s the perfect community for you!!
And just to prove that it’s not all “Deep Thoughts…”
content there on the board, check out the current
contest! I haven’t announced the end date or the prize
to be awarded yet, but why not play along! Add your
thoughts to the “Must-See TV” thread, or tell us about a
great movie you’ve seen. I’m also looking for feedback
on other threads that people would like to see, like
book reviews or mission statements – your feedback
counts, too! You'll find all of this happening at the “Empowered
Teams Unite!” Forum.
Come join YOUR community… we’re looking forward to
hearing from you! See you at The Forum!
P.S. - If you didn't notice the links on the forum
name above, you can
click here to go straight to the Empowered Teams
Unite forum. To post you'll need to have an account on
the forum. It's fr.ee - just click on the "Register"
link near the top of any forum page. |

Achieve More By Holding Yourself
Even More Accountable |
|
You can take your own accountability
to live your dreams up a notch by sharing your goals
with others. To help you do this we'd like you to send us a copy of your mission
statement. We'd also like your permission to include
it in this newsletter.
Why?
For 2 reasons:
-
It helps you be more accountable
when you share your mission statement with
others.
-
It inspires others to re-visit
their mission statement more regularly.
In other words, it's a win-win
situation for everyone. So step over the line to help yourself and help all of
your fellow graduates by sending in your mission
statement.
Just click here to send it. |

Making A Difference -
Carol Morris, Team 422 |
|
I was reflecting on the last few months and some of the
challenges that I have been presented with and I am amazed
at how I have been able to walk through them. Up until now,
I would have allowed these challenges to pull me down and
break my spirit. With each challenge, I had moments of self
pity and despair, but short lived as compared to the past.
What made my ability to walk through these differently than
I would have in the past? The answer is my EU tools.
When I take my EU tools and combine them with faith I
can't loose. Outcomes of these challenges have not always
been what I may have wished them to be, but they have always
been as they should be. Just accepting that I am powerless
over people has given me great power and freedom. I can not
control the choices of others, rather only my own. I can
however be an example of strength and courage through the
attitude I choose. So, these challenges I have faced, have
allowed me to be one step closer to the person that I want
to be. It is through such experiences and growth that I am
given the opportunity to see my worth and exercise my
potential. The seemingly bad is actually seemingly good.
When I stand up to adversity and proclaim what I want, I get
to live! Oh the possibilities!
I hope that each of you are truly living the dash of your
life and that you are able to see and feel your potential
and live it! |
