"Are You Working With Your 'Inner Hypocrite'?"

By Scott V. Black

Good day Empower U Leadership Team.

One of the core ideas that we work with here at Empower U is that, like it or not, we are all hypocrites. This means that regardless of how well intentioned we may be, it is almost impossible to always live up to our highest ideals.

Of course, those of you who've gone through our Leadership Awakening class have a much clearer idea of what your highest ideals are. You've already "raised the bar" and taken big steps towards becoming the "George Bernard Shaw" you could be.

Even so, doesn't it seem frustrating sometimes to have such a clear vision of what is possible and to then compare that with what is actually happening in your day-to-day life?

Here are a few ideas - for some of you, reminders - about how to translate that wonderful potential within you into the reality of your daily life...

Empower U News Update

Make Your New Year A Lifelong Adventure

A brand new Leadership Adventure is now on the schedule in January. This means you can start your new year in 2008 by taking your leadership skills 'over the line' to the next level by attending Adventure.

If you haven't committed to attending Adventure yet, read what a recent graduate said after her experience:

"Until I completed Adventure I had not realized the disservice I was doing myself by not completing the process. Awakening is only a very, small part of the big picture. Until completing Adventure it was as though I possessed a winning lottery ticket which I could not or would not cash. I could look at my ticket and instantly recall rush of excitement at winning my millions however I stopped short of cashing it.

"Two years after enthusiastically participating in my own Awakening I chose to take one the numerous opportunities offered to me and attended Adventure.

"Rest assured now that I’ve cashed my winning ticket my want to feed the hungry NOW has a how & when, my want to love the seemingly unlovable NOW has a who, how & when, my want to do a good job NOW has a where, when and for whom and my desire for building a future NOW has a plan, materials & a crew of skilled builders with a powerful and fearless leader."

 ~ Brandy Holmes

Isn't it time for you to make the commitment for yourself, your family and your future?

Awakening Update

How Leadership Awakening
Improved This Family's Everyday Life

"There is one thing that I came to realization in the class that has been one of the most effective teaching tools in our family that my wife and I have experienced.

We have been practicing telling our children what they “can do” instead of what “not to do” as they need correcting and teaching. I have seen them move and obey with greater intent, understanding and without argument. I can see the expression on their faces says, "Okay, ya, I will do that."

As happens many times with children in the house, my oldest son was speaking angrily towards his sister about something she was doing that he did not like. I stopped him and asked him to come over to me, I then said to him “If you did want her to stop… how would you talk to her?” He looked at me and then without speaking to me went right over to his sister and kindly asked her stop, which she did.

It sets a completely different tone in the house and you can see in their faces it gives them permission to act the way God wants them to.

Making a Difference - Jeremy Medcalf, Team 315

I saw our friend Tim (a homeless man) last Wednesday night and we talked for awhile. He told me that he had found a calling card in the trash, and lo and behold, it still had some time on it. He used those minutes to call his ex-wife, bless her heart, and he said it didn't go very well, but that it had got his mind wondering about his choices he'd made in life.

He said that when I pulled up, a spark of hope filled his heart and he immediately thought of his folks. I got him in my truck, took him to Walgreens, and gave him my prepaid phone card to call. I don't know how long it had been since he'd spoke with them, but when "Mom" picked up the phone, his face LIT UP!!

And I'll tell you, shining is contagious, I was smiling too. I left him there in privacy for a minute, and went in the store. I felt impressed to buy another 10 dollar card just for him because I saw genuine happiness and hope in his face while he talked to mom. He thanked me over and over, and I took him back to the place I'd picked him up.

I gave him my favorite pair of sweat pants, cause all he had was some thin wind pants on, and noticed he was wearing one of the sweatshirts Mr. Davis and I had given them. He told me that during his conversation on the phone, he'd decided he was going to visit his parents (they live in Tyler). He was going the next day to "Mission Arlington" and that they'd give him bus fare because of his fathers condition (he stroked out a year ago and is paralyzed on his left side.)

I asked Tim, "Are you committed?" and with a small struggle he finally said those powerful, precious words, "I'm committed!! I WILL go see my mom and dad!!"

Now I know that he has not been officially empowered, but I saw the commitment in his face, and with just a little help from above, I KNOW that his commitment will be upheld. I can't wait to talk to him again and listen to the results of his trip.

The TIME IS NOW people!! Planes crash, and people die. Don't take the time you and I have for granted. You never know what tomorrow holds, or if it will even come for you and I. Nurture those you love and get to know those around you. YOU Will make a difference.!!!
