Graduates of Empower U's Leadership Awakening understand the 3 steps for becoming your dreams. This formula to accomplish more than most people think possible isn’t rocket science. It’s not some hidden mystery that can be understood only high IQ Mensa members. It is a simple pattern… To become your dreams you must: Want it. Create it. Live it. It all starts with dreams and dreams start with knowing the answer to the question… What do you want?

As individuals we sometimes have a hard time identifying what we want, never mind knowing what someone else wants. When I work with groups I commonly ask the question, “What do you want?”

It's an important question because sometimes we want things that we might not necessarily think we want. You might be correct in assessing your spouse’s character flaws – but if you communicate them you will destroy your relationship. It that really worth the feeling of being “right?”

So what do you want? Do you want to be right or do you want to have a happy marriage? We need to know what we want in every situation because that knowledge gives us the direction to focus our energies and commitment.

The Secret to Motivation

There are times however when we need to find out what others want. Businesses and people constantly want to know how to motivate others. How do I get my employees to perform better? How do I get my spouse more excited about our relationship? How do I get my child to do better with their schoolwork? The real question here is, “How do I motivate ________?” You fill in the blank. This is an important question.

Zig Ziglar is responsible for one of my favorite sayings; “You can have anything you want in life, if you just help enough people get what they want.” The best way to motivate other people is to know… what do they want?

So the secret to motivation is hidden in this one question…

How Empower U Has Changed My Life

I never realized up until now how much I was letting childhood struggles with my parents and school effect my life in the way I treated people and viewed people. I am a much happier and caring person now.

My relationships with my children have greatly improved. Steven is 19 and Amanda is 16. I had a heart to heart conversation with each of them. My daughter cried with me after I shared some apologies. I see some of the old me in her in that she is very good at covering her emotions and shedding a tear with me has not happened in a while. Since Awakening we have had numerous really good conversations with her. I know we can still grow closer. It is great to know it’s never to late to change the old programming I’ve passed on to my kids.

My son is more like his father, who sees people for who they are and easy to get along with. I have let go of much of the control I had over him and trust him. He appreciates it and even acts more and more mature.

My husband and I have always had a good relationship, and it has gotten even better. I now realize my words have hurt him in the past. Our communication level is so much better. It is amazing how much more we can finish each other’s thoughts and sentences.

I also have a better relationship with my co-workers. I realize they have some of the same struggles I had. Now I can look them in the eyes and see the person behind the face, they are not just a person I work with. They see a different person too.

I want to thank everyone for showing me what a team is. All of you have helped in the change in me. I know I am still under construction, but have a great start. One of my passions is to bring others to the Awakening Class. Starting with my children. I know with God’s help he can show me how to reach people.

I chose to go to a local nursing home to visit with its tenants. I dedicated myself to going every 3rd Sunday with various church members who go every Month.

It felt great to reach out to people who tend to be very lonely and thrive on interaction with others. It was also painful to see people who were at the end of their lives sitting around as if just waiting to die. I felt that we were able to give them a time of joy and let them know that they haven’t been forgotten. The experience reminded me of seeing my grandfather 12 years ago relegated to a nursing home where he spent many lonely hours and how he cried when we would come and visit. Here was a man who fought for the freedom of his country and it seemed an indignity for him to be left alone so much of the time in such a dreary environment. This was a great motivation to me to let these people know that they are loved.

The response from those in the nursing home was great. They loved to interact (as much as they were able) and to sing Christmas carols with the children. This is the one thing that really stood out, was how much these people love to see children. I noticed how their eyes would immediately focus on the children when we came in the room and would quickly motion them to come and sit with them. For those who could not communicate well, their smiles spoke volumes.

For myself, I got a great sense of satisfaction knowing that I was doing something that is dear to the heart of God. James writes, “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” Many focus on the last part of that verse without giving enough attention to the first. It felt good to know that I was doing God’s will. As I said, this will continue to be a regular part of my ministry to others.
