Create a Dream Bigger Than YourselfDennis L. Huff, President
Let’s take action today to create a better tomorrow. Let’s cherish the journey and anticipate the destination. What is your destination? Is it peace of mind, money, time freedom, travel, adventure, to be in great shape, to be a better person, to be happy and successful? I believe the measure of success we achieve in our lifetime, whether personal, financial or otherwise; will be governed more by our attitude than any other factor. There is no physical, intellectual or spiritual limitation that we cannot overcome with the right attitude. It is the passion that manifests itself in mental and physical actions to do what is necessary to get the job done. It’s what keeps us going long after others have decided it’s not worth the effort. It is persistence to follow your plan when everyone else is telling you that “you are making a mistake,” or that “it will not work.” Accept the challenge and take action because leaders are not content with just being as good as the next person.
Truly, the responsibility of leadership is to demonstrate that the true measure of our success is the contribution we have made into the lives of others. So have fun, take action and work hard. You are making a difference in the world. Take a look at the people around you. How many people do you know right now that would like to maximize their ability to prosper in all aspects of life? How many people do you know that are swimming in debt, a few paychecks away from bankruptcy and stuck without the resources to adequately provide for their families? Right now, within your circle of friends and associates, there are several people praying and believing for an answer to their personal, business, family or financial challenges. Leadership is letting them know that you have an answer to their prayers. Leadership is creating a dream bigger than yourself and becoming the person God destined you to be. Leadership is your heart speaking to the hearts of others. By setting others free, you will be free. Leadership is the capacity to care for others and in caring…to liberate their dreams, energy and capacity. So give, live and love with passion. Nominate or sponsor a new potential EmpowerU graduate today! Remember, live life like it matters… because it does! Respectfully, Dennis L. Huff P.S. When was the last time you listened to the inspirational song “The Dash of Your Life?” Are You Part of the 3%?The people you surround yourself with have a lot to do with your success. In fact some people believe that you will never rise above the quality of the people you hang out with. In other words, you are only as good as the people you associate with. I want to associate with like-minded people, people who are committed to being the “best of the best.” People that are committed to being better every day… better parents, bosses, co-workers, spouses… better human beings. On Wednesday May 7th, we will kick off our first ever “3% club” in Sacramento, California. Since—UP UNTIL NOW—Sacramento represents the largest percentage of our graduate base, we are going to plant the first club there. Empower U will help get the club started and be actively involved for the first few meetings, then the graduates will take over and run it themselves. The meeting will start at 6:57 pm at the Clarion Hotel Cal Expo and we will bring it to a close by 8:58 pm. It will be an honor to connect, stay connected with other graduates. This monthly “re-charge” allows our graduates the opportunity to connect with other like-minded graduates of Empower U. It will be a social, re-energizing, Empower U centered monthly opportunity to help LIVE what you committed to in Leadership Awakening. There will be a fun process, mingling with other members of the EU Leadership Team, and a chance to make a difference in the community as an organization of committed leaders. Watch future newsletters for more information on other times and locations. Making a Differenceby Jennifer Leak, Team 415I chose to involve others when I went to donate blood at United Blood Services here in Reno. Because of the weather (snow, fog, ice) and the time of year (winter), the supply was even lower than it normally is at this time of year. I sent out an email to my co-workers, my teammates and my friends, asking them to take the time to donate on Wednesday January 19, 2005. In the past, I have not told anyone that I was going. In the end, I got 6 people to donate blood with me. It helped UBS and taught others that giving blood is not hard or painful. Other things that I have been up to since graduation have included reaching out to people who just need someone to talk to. One person at work was having a particularly bad week. After attending a graduation I decided to take action. Instead of thinking that this particular person was being a bitch, I reached out, sent her a card and talked with her and told her what no one else in the office would (gently, of course) and let her know how it affected all of us. She took the help and has been back on track. I was also reading the other boards and saw a member from 413 who needed help. This woman is a complete stranger to me. I posted on the board and then she emailed me. We emailed back and forth and I sent her a card as well. I believe I helped her pick herself up, dust herself off and hit the walls again. I now have a new friend in Dallas because I chose to relight her candle. So the questions are: a) What was it like? How did it make you feel? It was great. Reaching out and just doing anything to make peoples days just a little brighter and show them that there is someone who does care. Introducing people to giving blood was great. I don't know how I did not think of it before. We have committed to going every eight weeks this year - together. Even when I am feeling blue, I do something nice for someone because it makes me feel better. b) What impact did it make on those you served? I was able to raise the pints of blood in the blood bank by six pints, instead of just one. This will help our area hospitals to help people who cannot give blood -those that are sick and need transfusions, those that are in accidents, those that are in need. It is a good feeling knowing that I inspire others to do. c) What benefit did you gain from giving of yourself? I realized that I actually do benefit from giving of myself. I also realized that if I reach out to someone - in Reno, in Sacramento, in Dallas - that I impact their lives. I also realized that if I am feeling down or blue - reaching out makes me feel good. It is rewarding and something I plan on continuing. I realized that it is exhausting. I realized that I will have good days and bad days - but that is life. No flat line here. Peaks and valleys - which I will embrace. Thank you, Empower U. |
