Our graduates keep making a difference in the lives of others in their families and communities.
On Saturday, 1-19-02 I went to the home of a lady that was divorced and had been abused. I had received her name from our church. She needed some repairs done around her home. I worked repairing running toilets, "ghosting" doors, leveled her washer and trimmed trees. It was a great feeling giving. It was delightful to give without any expectations of receiving. She was grateful for the work. These were things that she did not know how to do and it was too expensive to hire someone to do. I benefited by feeling great about helping someone else. I was tired from just graduating from Leadership Awakening. It was a great pickup to help this lady. I felt great the rest of the day.
On Friday, 1-25-02 I went to a retirement home. I had signed up for an activity on Friday afternoons. My activity was playing dominoes with a group. The experience was awesome!! I played dominoes with 6 ladies that ranged in age from 84-93 years young. We had a great time. I got to know them quickly and we cut up and had fun. I will be doing this every Friday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. It felt great to give of myself to help these ladies have fun. They absolutely enjoyed themselves. They are anxious to learn a new game next week (a game called Chicken Foot). I benefited by seeing how responsive they were to me just being there and giving to them. There was not one bit of rejection. (Up until the evening of 1-18, that had been my demon.) I now have an anchor but it was not needed today! There was nothing but acceptance from these 6 ladies. I cannot wait until next week.
