If you could ask God, but one question
What, oh what would it be?
Would you want to know the date of your demise?
Or your fate, your death or your destiny?

Would you ask the Father about your future?
Would you want to know about your past?
Who killed JFK, or where is Noah’s Ark,
Or would you just want to hear him, at last?

Have you asked yourself this question?
And thought about what it would be?
What knowledge, or wisdom do you want?
What is it that most…puzzles thee?

I have thought about this question
This question which I desire of the giver
It is none of the above, or of the past
My question is much more forever.

If He would honor me with just one question
This question, yes-quite clear.
I would want to know his vision,
What does he see in me, when He looks near?

When God honors me with His holy Gaze,
I want to know what it is that He sees.
Is it with shaken head and fallen heart
Or does He see and say…”it’s where you need to be”

Am I out of chances or will I ever get it?
Does he see me hopeless; maybe I’m running the race?
Does He see me beyond experience?
Knowing I will get it … with a bit of a smile, on His face.

He sits above time, seeing beginning and the end
Which does he see when he looks at me?
Does He see me at the end, my salvation intact?
Knowing at that time-- it what was needed of thee?

Or does he see what I do in the here and the now,
Does he see my daily struggles with my shame?
Does He draw a line in the sand?
Is it being blessed this one final time…this is the end of the game?

Or does he see my struggles in the bigger picture,
Knowing getting there is who I become…
A better soldier, a different gift, a strange environment….
So much different, but a blessing for some.

Is this just part of the movie
Is this just a tumble in the race?
Does he understand the struggles and weaknesses?
Does he believe me deserving of His Grace?

The knowledge of this answered question,
Would rest this weary soul.
It would be that fruitful foundation…
fertilized seeds of greatness grow!

If I had on question to ask of God
If I knew the answer was from HE.
I want to know what does He see,
What does He see, when HE looks at me…?
