People
This is the third and final article in the series, Purpose, Passion and People.
The “Three P’s” for building business success. People... Who is it that we come in contact with everyday? Who do we pass on the street everyday? Who do we sell our product or service to? Who is it that shares our good name and business with other people? Who is it that comes to work with us and for us each and every day? Who do we all need to be successful in our business and personal ventures? PEOPLE...
The greatest Mission in the world cannot be accomplished without people being involved. Most of our goals could not be reached without other people being involved. A team cannot be a team without people.
The greatest Mission in the world cannot be accomplished without people being involved. Most of our goals could not be reached without other people being involved. A team cannot be a team without people. There is not much of a family without people. To quote a title from a classic Barbara Streisand song, we are all “People who need People”. Without people, all the Purpose and Passion in the world will not create the success that we all want to achieve. People are the glue and fasteners that connect the rungs in our ladders of success.
As we have discussed the greatest asset any business owner or leader has is the hearts and minds of their people. To build the most successful companies and families we must learn how to empathetically and effectively access the most powerful aspects of all our assets. How do we build relationships that allow us to maximize the human elements in our lives? First of all we must realize that as different as all people are there are many similarities and traits that find a common thread that run through all of us. All people have three basic needs: Someone to love, something to learn and something to live for.
There are two basic roles that people play in relation to our businesses. First of all there are our internal clients. These are our team members that we work with every day. These people are the ones that allow us to do our jobs in a certain fashion. These are the people that make us a team and help make up who we are, what we do and the quality in which we do it. My favorite acronym for TEAM is Together Everyone Accomplishes More. The power of a group of people working together is phenomenal. Synergy takes place when more than one individual is working to an end result. Synergy is a force that exponentially increases the results and performance of a group of people, in other words, 1 + 1 equals 3, that is synergy.
Secondly, there are our external clients. These are the people that buy our service and/or products, the end users. These are the people that allow us the opportunity to do what we do. Without these people we could not afford to be in business. So many books are written each year to help people learn how to get and keep these people as customers. That is why salespeople are so critical in the business equation because unless somebody sells something, nobody has a job. Conversely unless we serve our clients well, nothing is purchased and we have no purpose for being in business.
The relationships that we have with our clients, both internal and external dictate the level of success we achieve.
The relationships that we have with our clients, both internal and external dictate the level of success we achieve. When we serve our clients and they get value out of what we do then we have a good chance at getting their business. When we serve our clients and they get value out of our product and\or service, then we have a great opportunity to build a relationship that allows for repeat business and a good friendship.
Once we realize that people are the most important assets in our personal and professional lives, the better we can build those relationships. With the Holidays upon us, it is even more important that we cherish the relationships in our lives. There are many people in our lives that deserve the best of who we are. Reach out and thank those people in your lives that have been very special to you and your family.
